TRAGIC, SAD AND TOTALLY AVOIDABLE! Does anybody know how many servicemen and American civilians weve lost in wars weve had no businesses being in? I would be afraid to hazzard a guess. People dont like to admit it, but most of these foreign conflicts and call to arms were actually battles prepared a lot earlier, reheated and served to the American public and the world at large as defensive measures or responses to direct aggression. But were we in any real danger? No one wants to acknowledge that sometimes even good countries practice the age-old deception of war just for the simple purpose of land expansion, foreign influence, exploitation of foreign resources, strategic positioning, buffers to an enemys expansion, ideological stronghold presence in the area, and a leaping off point for further incursions. The former Soviet Union was an expert at it. Remember in 1944 how they incouraged the Polish uprising against the occupying Nazi forces? Stalin assured insurgent leaders that his forces, which were positioned nearby, would move right in at the first shot to assist them. The Russian leader had no intention of honoring that promise. So he sat back and let the Nazis slaughter thousands of resistance fighters and innocent civilians. The diabolically cruel and cunning Stalin was a visionary. He saw a communist influence all over eastern Europe; and suspicious to the point of paranoia, he just didnt trust some of the Polish leadership, so he had the Germans do his dirty work, then moved right in, liquidating the ones the Germans had missed, and raised the red flag. He outflanked the allies in Berlin and moved in while the his partners sat on their hands. Stalin never did much to hide his intentions or suspicion and contempt for the West, but every powerful country wants to spread their doctrine and have a strong influence that extends far beyond their borders. No matter what anyone claims, this is what its all about! Its ideology often piggybacking on excuses and stoked by patriotic fervor. But the public is always the last to know--if it is ever revealed to them at all--why their sons and daughters must be called yet again to shed their blood. Somewhere in the bowels of government offices decisions are made that put clueless citizens in harms way! If its complete transparency and accountability that you are looking for, you wont find it in government. You only know what it deems suitable. This is the true government/citizen dynamic. No one, of course, expects to be privy to everything that goes on at that level. But an even greater danger than a threatening FOREIGN government is an unregulated and paranoic domestic one. Lets face it: A combative mind needs little excuse to fight. And where enemies dont exist an aggressive temperament creates them. I dont know about you, but I am getting very tired of picking up the paper or turning on my TV to see more of the same posturing and threatening nonsense! No one wants us over there, just as we dont want them over HERE! Do you actually believe that people in foreign lands are requesting American boots on their soil? Think about it. We dont learn that well. The government saw the first world war as an opportunity to turn this fledgling nation into a competitive world power. The second world war allowed us to become an industrial superpower and to gobble up territory. We should pay attention to Britain--the ultimate benchmark for colonial expansion. At one time the sun never set on the British empire. When nations get big they give into the intoxicant of Empire building. Its a heady feeling thats almost impossible to resist. And there is just no way of doing that honestly and morally. All nations do it. But when you outgrow your britches its time to cut back on the calories! The English learned that lesson and scaled back--returning independence to many of their former colonies and staying free of their internal affairs. And you notice they arent having the problems that we are. As the elders used to say: If you keep looking for trouble you will find it! Makes sense to me.
