TROOP A NEWS RELEASE January 24, 2014 Zachary Man Killed in East Baton Rouge Parish Fatal Crash Baton Rouge – Shortly before 6:30 pm on January 23, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 67 (Plank Rd.) north of LA Hwy 408 (Hooper Rd.) in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash took the life of 24 year old Donald Ray Langlois, Jr. of Zachary. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 20 year old Sevon C. Brown of Baker was driving a 2003 Ford F-150 southbound on LA Hwy 67. At the same time, Langlois was driving a 2003 Toyota Celica GT-S northbound on LA Hwy 67. Brown attempted to make a left hand turn on a green light through the intersection of LA Hwy 67 and Robique Rd. Langlois was traveling northbound through the intersection on a green light when Brown turned into his path in the northbound lanes of travel. As a result the Toyota struck the Ford in the intersection. Despite the fact that he was properly restrained, Langlois suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Brown was unrestrained and was ejected from his vehicle. He suffered moderate injuries and was transported from the scene to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge. Impairment on the part of either driver is not suspected at this time; however, toxicology samples were taken from both Brown and Langlois and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Brown was cited for LRS 32:232 (Failure to yield at a green light) and LRS 32:295.1 (No seatbelt). This crash remains under investigation and further charges may be pending. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Taking the time to buckle up before every trip is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash. Contact Information: TFC Jared L.
