TROOP A NEWS RELEASE May 29, 2014 Thibodaux Woman Dies in Four Vehicle Ascension Parish Crash Sorrento – Shortly before 1:00 pm on May 29, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a four vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 70 south of LA Hwy 22 in Ascension Parish. The crash took the life of 41 year old Tiffany L. Moore of Thibodaux, LA. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Moore was driving a 2007 Mercury Montego southbound on LA Hwy 70. At the same time, 38 year old Jacqueline Harvey of Baton Rouge was driving a 1999 Honda Accord southbound, and 75 year old Adelin Rodrigue of Port Allen was driving a 2006 Ford F-250 southbound. Traffic was slowing due to congestion in the southbound lane, and for unknown reasons Moore failed to stop in time causing her Mercury to strike the rear of Harvey’s Accord. The impact pushed the Accord into a fourth unknown vehicle. The unknown driver of this vehicle then left the scene continuing southbound. Simultaneously, as Moore’s vehicle struck the rear of Harvey’s vehicle, Rodrigue failed to stop in time causing his Ford to strike the rear of Moore’s Mercury. Despite the fact that she was wearing her seatbelt Moore was transported from the scene to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Gonzales where she succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. Both Harvey and Rodrigue were properly restrained and received only minor injuries. Rodrigue was cited for LRS 32:58 – Careless Operation for his part in the crash. Driver impairment is not suspected on the part of any driver at this time; however, toxicology samples were taken from all drivers and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. Troopers believe that the driver of the unknown fourth vehicle may have left the scene because she did not receive much damage to her vehicle. They do not believe that she was a factor in the crash, but would still like to speak with her. It is believed that she is a Hispanic female and was driving a blue or dark colored Honda Accord. The vehicle may have minor damage on the rear bumper area. Troopers are asking for the public’s help in identifying this driver, and ask that anyone with any information please contact Louisiana State Police Troop A at 225-754-8500 or their local law enforcement agency. Although not all crashes are survivable, Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained.
