TRUE MIRROR ON THE WALL How we think shows through in how we act. Attitudes are mirrors of the mind. They reflect thinking. - David Joseph Schwartz Scripture reading: James 1:21-27 Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all? I am sure this phrase stirs up your memory of the popular fairy tale, Snow White. This was one mirror which spoke the truth regardless of the status of the person. It is unfortunate that the wicked Queens mirror was not mass produced because it would have guided many people to work on their imperfections in a world filled with sin, lies, hanger-ons and sycophants. The vast majority of people including many children of God have inferior or exaggerated impression of themselves instead of the absolute truth which emanates from their Creator. Only manufacturers know the original intent or purposes of their products; and owners manuals are added to these products to enable title-holders obtain maximum function and satisfaction from them. In the same vein, only God, your Maker, knows the original intent of your creation and thankfully, He added an owners manual to your life through His word to enable you maximize your purpose in life. Our scripture reading for today details two kinds of spiritual mirrors which operate in the lives of people on earth. There is the mirror of the world fashioned by Satan and the perfect mirror of God. The mirror of the world gives a much distorted view of peoples lives resulting in inferiority or superiority complexes. This is a lying mirror hanging on the wall of many people. Its amazing the myriad of lies that many people, including the precious children of God, have been made to believe including but not limited to: believing they are not smart enough; second class citizens; ugly; bad parents; good for nothing and undeserving of Gods blessing which makes rich without added sorrow. The other extreme of this lying mirror makes people develop a superiority complex and belief that they are better than everyone in their circles of influence. Some people believe that they are smarter, better looking and in a nutshell, Gods special gift for all creation. Todays scripture reading teaches that the word of God is the true mirror of the believer. This is the only mirror that tells every believer the truth and nothing but the truth about who they really are. No one can know you better than God who reveals His purposes through your recreated sprit inside you. The scriptures exhort every believer to make full use of the mirror of Gods word by not only becoming hearers but also doers of the word. The mirror does not automatically change ones appearance but it exposes imperfections as well as reveals good accentuations. The onus of evening the blemishes and perfecting the adornments is dependent on the person looking into the mirror. There are too many lying mirrors hanging on our walls. Who shapes your image? Is it God, friends, families, Hollywood, pop culture or the mind that is not renewed in the Lord? It is high time that you took charge of your own life. After everybody has given their opinions, the real you, who is your spirit, in partnership with the Holy Spirit must have the final word on who you really are. Dont allow Satan to shape your image with your past foibles, failures, rejections, accent, color of your skin, gender, body habitus and all the lies emanating from the lying mirrors. The word of God is unchanging, But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. - 2Cor. 3:18. Memory verse: But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does. - James 1:25 Confession: Thank You Father for Your true mirror that accurately depicts the real me. I submit myself to the fullness of the mirror of Your word to identify and correct the false images of my life. Through the grace of God, I purpose to always look into the perfect law and mirror of liberty, not as a forgetful hearer but doer of every revelation from the Holy Spirit. Im persuaded of Your transformation in every area of my life from this day onwards as I behold Your glory. Thank You Father for Your true mirror which reflects and shapes my true image and Your unspeakable gift through Jesus Christ, Amen. Rev. Dr. Isaac Paintsil ©
