TRUE SABBATH KEEPING The Sabbath is Gods Gift to Us [1] Mark 2:27-28 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath. - The Sabbath was made for us [2] Isaiah 58:13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honorable; and shalt honor him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words - It is Gods Holy Day. Preparation for the Sabbath [3] Exodus 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. - To remember it through the week [4] Luk 23:54 And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on. - Especially the preparation day [5] Exo 20:9 Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work - All our work to be completed before the Sabbath begins [6] Exo 16:23 And he said unto them, This is that which the Lord hath said, Tomorrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the Lord: bake that which ye will bake today, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning. - Food to be prepared prior to Sabbath. A Holy Day [7] Lev 23:32 It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath. - The time is from evening to evening [8] Neh 13:19-20 And it came to pass, that when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the sabbath, I commanded that the gates should be shut, and charged that they should not be opened till after the sabbath: and some of my servants set I at the gates, that there should no burden be brought in on the sabbath day. So the merchants and sellers of all kind of ware lodged without Jerusalem once or twice. - No shopping [9] Jer 17:21-22 Thus saith the Lord; Take heed to yourselves, and bear no burden on the sabbath day, nor bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem; Neither carry forth a burden out of your houses on the sabbath day,neither do ye any work, but hallow ye the sabbath day, as I commanded your fathers. - No regular work [10] Isaiah 58:13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord,honorable; and shalt honor him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words - No unnecessary travelling. Carefulness in speaking. Not doing our own pleasure. Examples of Jesus [11] John 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide inmy love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love. - Kept the commandment [12] Luk 4:16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. - Went to Gods house [13] Mat 12:11-12 And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out? How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days. - Did good deeds [14] Luke 13:15-16 The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering? And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day? - Healed the sick [15] Mat 12:1 At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were hungry, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat. - Walked in the country.
