TUTORIAL: WEATHERING A DRESS -- CANDLE WAX Ive used this technique once in one of my fashion design collections, and as for Enira: The Banshee Queen (Lineage 2) i knew that definetly i had to do this on her trim! As shes something like a revenant queen, her dress cant be all pretty and stuff! cmon, shes going all around the world fighting with it! it must be at least muddy! For this technique ive used melted candle wax, with a little bit of a red colouring (to colour the candle wax im used to dip a crayon on it and mix a little bit, until you reach the tone you want!) After the skirt was done, ive did the proccess you can see there (its the real dresss skirt on this video) The candle wax melt really fast, so be extra cautelous while dealing with this! Ive went for an alluminum recipient, big enought to be able to dip a good part of the skirt on it! Its basically, dip small parts of it, hold it above the recipient while it pours the excess and then to the sink/shower to fasten the cristalyzation proccess! While washing it, be sure to stretch the fabric (as you can see me doing) so the fabric wont become a mass of wax, also youll get rid of extra layers of wax that didnt got attached to the fabric itself (and would keep falling all over the place after dried). Repeat this as many times as you think its necessary, then leave it to dry! The skirt got a little bit heavier (obviously) and as it was a stretchy velvet, when the wax got attached to it, and dry it added a nice ruffled aspect because as the stretch was forced in a direction, when the wax dried it couldnt get back to its original position, so it reached a very interesting aspect, i really think it was really worthyl! Overall its a very easy proccess, but you must be extra carefull while doing it, or you could end up badly burn! So, be sure to wear gloves all the time!
