Take a look at our cover drawing of the dominating 3 storey Coulter Berry Building presently being built right in the heart of old Fort Langley downtown. Those walls and windows are right up against the sidewalk. Pretty much zero setback. Today, if you drive down that part of Glover Road, you see hydro poles and hydro wires right about the height of those 3rd floor windows, just a few feet away. Notice how you dont see them in this drawing? Thats because the owner of that land,(and is the developer of that property) and who also owns approximately half of the Glover Road downtown commercial core properties and is the President of the Fort Langley Business Improvement Association and using the BIA got Council and Mayor to agree to spend over $1Million taxpayer dollars to bury those unsightly wires outside his soon-to-be-built windows. So now Council and Mayor immediately after the election have put the Aldergrove Forest known as Creekside Forest up for sale so a developer can build on it. Originally in the Aldergrove OCP as protected land, Council and Mayor earlier this year rezoned it (basically nullifying the OCP for that 19 acres) so it could be sold and developed. My understanding is that it is the last Township-owned forested land in Aldergrove. And the reason they are giving for selling it? To give them the money to build the Aldergrove pool (assuming they can even use that money that way, there are differing opinions on that). So basically Aldergrove, they are saying to you: Pool or Forests. Meanwhile, they help one of their developer pals in Fort Langley by spending $1Million taxpayer dollars to underground the unsightly wires he and some of his friends on the Fort Langley BIA want buried. Wires that have been there for what? 80+ years? (yes, I realize they would not be the exact same wires, but you get my point). But now they have to go and spend needed tax dollars to do it. Those hydro lines are not buried yet and in fact that particular burial project has not been started....... I think Id rather have a pool in Aldergrove AND the forest.
