Taken from the Support Knox County TN Schools FB page ( a really good page) From the Sat-10 testing is one of several tests that children of five through eight years of age may be asked to take at during the school year. Why is it a gimmick when other tests administered to your children are not? Its a rule of 3, but please bare with me. 1) SAt-10 is read to the entire class at once...This leads to inattentiveness by those who can read and misunderstandings by those who cannot read. Everyone must go at one pace, no matter if someone is crying or someone has flipped forward. It is a teacher and volunteer proxys worst nightmare to watch the painful way in which this standardized test is administered to an entire classroom of five and six year olds at one time. There are plenty of effective one-on one tests that are currently used to measure your childs abilities in reading and math before they are 9 years old. The SAT-10 is not one of those individual tests. (2) the results of the SAT-10 are vague and generic and something parents and teachers already know about a student. (3) the SAT-10 test results are not returned to the students parents or students teachers in a timely manner to be effective in differentiating instruction. The data is useless because the child development level has completely changed by the time the test results come in. The gentlewoman in red gives a perfect example of the tail wagging the dog in this Knox County BOE meeting in early November. An ineffective test--the SAT-10 should never have been associated with evaluating teachers to begin with, and if that is the case, then it needs to change. Public education exists to serve students, not administrators, and as Ive already mentioned, the SAt-10 does not effectively serve students.- Megan Morris
