Takibi/ fire and festivities during Hatsumoude... Takibi, fire during the Hatsumoude time is very very popular...everyone enjoys the primal activity of gathering around a fire with others.....re: Takibi/ the fire burning of Jinja Keidai/ grounds during the entire period of Osyougatsu/ New Years time. To gather around the open fire is basic for the human beings..from the earliest times of human history people have gathered around the fire. Further the Takibi on Keidai at New Years time relates to the time when Amaterasu Omikami/ Kami of Sun secluded herself / withdrew to Ame-no-Iwa-Ya/ rock dwelling/ cave. At that time the myriads of Kami assembled and cooperated together to return divine illumination to the world. During that episode a fire was kindled--that fire was dedicated to the resurrection of the solar deity and so we can see relates very directly to the practice of all peoples to kindle a fire at the time of winter solstice---always with the same primal purpose of a Chinkon-sai or rejuvenation of Taiyo/ solar progenitor/ sun. ----during Hatsumoude operations of Tsubaki America Grand Shrine there are many activities on the keidai/ shrine grounds....of course many people enter the shrine building with theri families and receive the special Oharae and Kitoh/ Shinto Ceremony to welcome the New Year and set the KI for health,safety and success throughout the year...but there are many activities for the Shato Sanpaisya/ people making Omairi but not entering the shrine building...of course Shato Sanpaisya pray at Genkan and enjoy to listen to the Kitoh and Taiko coming from Heiden ---also they are nourished by enjoying the Haraegawa/ mountain purification river flowing nearby and visiting the various Hokora small shrines on grounds---but also there are many tents on the grounds...1 large tent for Uketsuke and Juyosyo/ reception and amulet receiving place, then past the Takibi and Shofukutama/ good fortune stone sphere there is the area for refreshments....MyGreenTea Co. mygreentea will give samples of there delicious tea and likely have special sweets available, this year people can enjoy specialty Japanese Sandwiches made by longtime shrine friend tressandwich ....special shrine friend Chika Tokara of Tokara Wagashi will also make available her so high quality and delicious wagashi/ tea sweets...there will be Amaguri/ roasted Chestnuts and even special Bento available (Bento and Amaguri will be available only on Gantan 1/1/15) ---to enjoy the enriched atmosphere of the Shrine grounds, the sacred fire and these festive foods while making Hatsumoude is really the Matsuri/ festival paradigm...the vertical element of timeless Shinto Gishiki and the horizontal element of interaction with community......thank you so much in advance to all shrine volunteers and shrine friends who will make Hastumoude 2015 possible.
