Taking a break from Causality. On page 360, past the halfway point. I hit 317 last night. Yeah, 140,000 words produces a word document of slightly less than 640 pages. Heh, thats nothing. Mom died in 2009. It took me a year to get over that and all those years of caregiving. Starting in February of 2010 - I think - I began writing. Ive written four novels, two screenplays, two or three novelettes, and about a seventeen short stories. Those novels, one is 52,000 words. Its the baby of the family. Then theres Causality, 140,000 words. Contravallation, 180,000 words. My complete rewrite of Rewire, 180,000 words. Plus, Suzies Technical Support is almost done. Its another runt, at a projected length of around 90,000 words. Im a busy little boy. And in all that, Im ignoring the tiny bits that can make a successful writing career. I had some placeholding comment in my Twitter profile, just noticed a moment ago how blah it was. So I put this in instead: Professional writer since 1989. Author of the IN THE REALM OF THE GODS series and the SUZIE crime novels. Crazy, but highly reliable. Can fix about anything. My first professional sale was in 1989. My career went on hold when I became a part-time caregiver to my mom and dad just a few years later. Between that and my job as an adjunct college instructor, I hardly had the time to write. Then I became a 24/7 caregiver after Dad died, which closed everything down. I managed to scribble a little to keep my mind alive, but nothing professional. My friendships with many of you began during this period. So you see, I have about twenty years worth of stories inside me, smashing around, wanting to get out. From a variety of successful ebook writers, plus the overt timidity of traditional agents and publishers - I mean, that softcore fan fic Fifty Shades of Gray was first published as an ebook, didnt stop the author from getting an agent and a big publishing deal for it - Ive decided over the coming months to put most of what Ive written up as ebooks. My In the Realm of the Gods series already has 2000 readers, so this isnt the gamble it might otherwise appear to be. It really is true, by the way. I can fix most anything. It might entail a liberal use of duct tape and superglue, but itll work.
