Taming of Advani Strengthens Modi Forces in BJP. The elevation of Narendra Modi as the campaign manager of BJP for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections at its executive committee meeting at Panaji on Sunday and the resignatin of L.K.Advani within hours on Monday, criticizing the style of functioning of the leadership, have thrown open the fissures within this party. But within 24 hours he withdrew resignation, obviously under pressure from RSS headquarters. These developments have once again proved that the dominant role in deciding the course of action and leadeship of BJP, like in any other Parivar member, will be always with RSS, their mentor. Since it is fully dedicated to speed up the neo-liberal policies as its NDA rule did during 1998 to 2004, and as it had initiated many of the policy decisions which have now led to major scams and plunder of natural resources, BJP wanted to project a new leadeship, preseting Modi as the ‘vikas purush’. If RSS promoted Advani from the beginning as its mascot to carry forward the Hindu Rashtra concept, it feels that he can no longer play that role. So it opted for Modi and wanted it to be done as fast as possible to launch the Lok Sabha election campaign actively, using the November elections to the five states where it has big stakes, as a rehersal. RSS leadership has stressed that unless BJP increases its strength and becomes the biggest party after elections it will not get the chance of winning over allies in a post-poll scenario to form next government. But, these initatives of RSS went against the prime ministerial hopes of Advani. He felt that the Goa decision has belittled his importance. So, he tried to put pressure on the leadership and through it on RSS by resigning. Modi was Advani’s devoted disciple for long. It was Advani who saved him in 2002 when Vajpayee and other wanted him to resign following the genocide in Gujarat. So giving any aura to Advani as more secular than Modi will be ridiculous as he is a leading RSS cadre for last many decades who successfully brought Hindutua to the forefront in every sphere. He was always the advocate of divisive communal politics. But today RSS considers Modi as a better Advani, to carry forward its agenda. So whatever the Congress, JD(U) like forces and the media may say, Modi will lead BJP campaign and Advani would have faced the fate of many others before him if he had not relented. He was wise enough to recognise it and withdrew the resignation. The manner of evaluation of these happenings within BJP reflects the class character political line of the players in India’s political scene. The happenings from 9th to 11th June including the taming of Advani has further strengthened RSS agenda of makinng Hindutua plus vikas as the central thrust in the election agenda, as an Indian vertion of Hitler’s election manifesto. Using the online methods and paid news in the corporate media, already BJP has gained lot of propaganda advantage on the ideological front winning over major sections of middle classes who are dreaming about Americanizing India. As the RSS is throwing its full force behind the campaign, and as the American phobea is influencing even the middle classes of the minorities, challenging this Hindutua plus Vikas agenda is going to be a big task in front of all other parties. Though it is too early to state how much electoral support BJP is going to get, it is a major challenge before the Indian polity. This danger becomes all the more dangerous as though all of the other parties except other Hindutua parties like Shiv Sena talk about opposing Hindutua, they are following communal appeasement plus neo-liberal policies as their agenda. None of them has an alternative to project. All parties from Congress to the regional parties are or were leading governments at centre or in many states are ardent advocates of the present neo-liberal development policies. But the corporate forces and a section of media are marketing Modi as a better one to carry it forward based on the much touted ‘Gujarat model’, there are possibilities for the middle class overwhelmingly following him. The sole hope of much discredited Congress, a stronger polarization of all minorities and secular forces against Modi-led BJP may not materialize. It is doing the greatest service to Modi platform by further speeding up neo-liberal policies and defending the scamsters on the one hand, and by its own communal appeasement, not only in internal policies but also in its approach towards bettering relations with Pakistan, on the other. Modi led BJP’s propaganda will be that it can implement the neo-liberal policies better than Congress led UPA, while targetting corruption, price rise etc, which are the trade-marks of the decade long UPA rule. Along with this, the election campaign will get reduced to communal, caste, parochial factors based on money-muzzle-liquor power. The JD(U) like parties, who are still allies of BJP in NDA and who did not leave it even after the massacre in Gujarat by the Modi government, are now trying to distance themselves from him only to gain advantage of the anti-UPA atmosphere along with support of the minorities. All others neither oppose neo-liberal policies nor stand for genuine secular principles. History repeatedly teaches that it is in such an atmosphere of opportunist politics the fascist forces get opportunity to capture power. In this serious situation, it is the task of all the forces who reject the neo-liberal policies, oppose communalization and caste oppression and have an alternative people oriented development perspective to come together and mobilize the masses for a people’s alternative.
