Tattoos: An offense and a stumbling block. I marvel at the acceptance of marring the temple of God with vain images of a sinful world, as well as the twisted idea that marking religious pictures, names, scriptures, and images on the temple of God will be acceptable to the God that redeemed us. In the days of Moses God commanded Moses to make a serpent of brass and put it on a pole, everyone that was bitten by the serpents that God sent to punish the Israelites that sinned against him, if they looked upon the brasen serpent, they would live and not die of the serpent bite. Later unfortunately, the Israelites began to sin by committing idolatry, they got so twisted in their minds that the took the brasen serpent that God had used to save their lives, and they began to offer incense unto it and pray to it as a god. When this happened God raised up a righteous king named Hezekiah that broke the brasen serpent to pieces and commanded Israel to worship God only by obeying his holy law. This story from the Bible teaches us that a person can use something God had made and misuse it in a way that is wickedness in the eyes of God. Bible verses, pictures of Jesus, an image of a cross are special to Christians, but like the brasen serpent they were never intended to be used in a sinful act, this is something to think about. I take note that there are many positions of employment that require you to keep you body marking covered and not exposed, this they deem as unprofessional and a bad way to promote their business. These business owners feel it is a negative form of advertisement for one of their employees to show up at your door covered with vain images. Having said this I want to say that if a sinful world sees the need for decency and a clean professional image, then how much more ought the church of the Lord see the need to remove all offense by not marring their bodies. I see professing believers all the time come in to churches with dragons and serpents and naked women, and demons, and skulls, etc totally exposed for all to see. If you preach against these things they say you are judging them, but here is something they don’t realize. Some of us don’t believe that you should pin up playboy pictures in church, nor do we believe that you should pin up pictures of demons and serpents, we don’t believe that images of death and rebellion should be posted on church walls, and most of you would agree. Now what is the difference if your neighbor or a child comes to church and has to look at these wicked images that people have posted on their bodies. Every time these individuals lift their hands or walk by ,innocent little children see nudity, Satanism, and signs of disobedience to God, and this is wrong to do to children, especially in the house of God. My plea is this, that if a person was tattooed before coming to faith, yes the glorious forgiveness of God belongs to you as well as to all, you can be forgiven for the marks you have made on God’s temple. But now you have a God given responsibility not to cast a stumbling block before others, especially children. Therefore the converted soul should by all means keep the markings of his previous life without God covered as much as possible, and by all means don’t bring the spirit of the world into your new life in Christ by fulfilling the same fleshly desires to marr the temple of God with more marking on you body. God doesn’t want pictures on your body, he doesn’t tell us to do such things, search the scriptures, there is no teaching to cover your body with images. Our life as Christians revolves around the will of God and pleasing God, not pleasing flesh. I love you enough to tell you the truth! Maranatha
