Tdh - Germany helps the SAN in Southern Africa to lobby the SADC C NGO Forum to establish a Minorities Desk at SADC Offices Author: sarah.cossa project countries: Namibia, South Africa project topic: Globalization and Diversity, Development Policies Tdh Germany in Southern Africa is in the final stages of formalizing partnerships with Open Society Initiatives in Southern Africa and Norwegian Church Aid to support the Indigenous Minorities within Southern Africa to lobby Southern Africa Development Commission - Civil Society NGO Forum ( SADC C NGO) towards the setting up of a Minorities Desk and Indigenous Minorities Movement. WIMSA - our tdh partner was identified as the potential regional organization that can lead this process. A position paper will be prepared by the SAN themselves, ahead of the SADC Meeting in August in Malawi and together with the Gobabis Declaration of 2012, that was produced at a tdh supported Regional SAN Rights Conference will be handed over to this body in charge of civil society organizations within the SADC region. Meanwhile, representatives from Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe are back from the just ended 2013 UN World Conference on Indigenous People held in ALTA - Norway. Our partners are now part of the African Caucus Team which formed a network of organizations for Indigenous Minorities in Africa and now busy working on engaging SADC as a regional body . With this level of engagement, tdh enjoys the visibility of its contributions in support of minorities within Southern Africa region and believes greater impact will be made in the right to lobby and development work.
