Teaching is more art than science---its more about imagining than reality---what empirical data could predict that a new born baby can learn so much in such little time--- and yet they do learn---with no benchmark tests---no rigorous instruction, they are simply thrust into life---and they learn all this through their play---what we do know (empirically ) is that the one thing that stifles learning is the lack of play and the lack of stimulation--- so we take these young children and sit them in desks and expect them to learn like college students--- we take away recess and art and take creativity away from the teacher---then we test these kids every which side we can---and then we wonder why they hate school and hate learning --- and why the only thing they are really good at is taking tests.
