Tearjerker: "My father passed away in 1983, just a year and half - TopicsExpress

Tearjerker: "My father passed away in 1983, just a year and half after bringing us to America, I was only 8 years old. I do not have many clear memories of our time together, but from the stories that my mother and aunts tell. He was the head of our family, who was loved and respected by all. He single handedly saved our family from certain death at the hands of Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge. It is disheartening for me to think that my father survived the Killing Fields of Cambodia only to died of cancer at the age of 39 in Hawaii, never getting to enjoy life in America. His death left my mother with 5 kids in a foreign land. I am now approaching my 39th Birthday (Nov 7th) and raising a family of my own. I wanted to honor the man, who people speak of as almost a mythical figure a legend in my family; my father. I had the idea for this tattoo since I was a teen but have been waiting to find the perfect tattoo artist. Not only did I get the person that I always wanted in Kat, but I also got this very special video as keep sake to remind me of the experience. Thank you to: Kat Von D, Cory Miller and the entire staff at LA ink, from the camera and sound guys to the producers who helped get me on the show. This was a fitting tribute to honor, not only my father, my mother and my family; but it is a tribute to HONOR all the Khmer Families from all over the whole who are survivors of Pol Pot and the Killing fields of Cambodia. We may be displaced in different parts of the world, but our stories are the same. I hope I represented us well...One Love -SSC"
