Technic Information: WHAT TO CHECK FOR IN 8.5MM CERAMIC WALL TILES? Recently we trialled a 300x600x8.5mm gloss white ceramic wall tile. At first we were a bit apprehensive because we have always sold the 300x600x10mm, the reason for our concern was because it was thinner it might be more susceptible to bowing. As it turned out , it was just as good as the thicker (10mm) one and better priced. It is useful to understand that all tiles particularly the rectangular shapes have a natural bowing effect. If they are laid straight bond, it is no problem because you will generally find the bowing is the same on all tiles , therefore the effect will not be visible. If however you want to lay the tiles in brick bond, then it will be necessary to place the tiles on the surface intended to be fixed and check if agreeable. Before the tiler starts to lay tiles he should consult to make sure that any bowing is not so excessive as to compromise the desired finish.
