SolaRoad is a pioneering innovation in the field of energy harvesting.It is unique concept, which converts sunlight on the road surface into electricity. Road network works as an inexhaustible source of green power. It is officially opened on November12, 2014 in Krommenie, a town northwest of Amsterdam. Netherlands. Working Procedure: The pilot road of just a hundred meters consist of concrete modules each of 2.5 by 3.5 meters. Solar cells are fitted in one traveling direction underneath a tempered glass top layer which is approximately 1cm - thick. There are no solar cells on the other side of the road and this is used to test various top layers. In time , the solar power from the road will be used for practical applications in street lightening , traffic systems , electric cars and households. If this power generated from roads could be used for recycling dustbins placed side of the road.
