Technology and the internet has for some time been scorned as being as much a curse or step backwards for society as it has a blessing or step forwards, and perhaps for good reason. But for all its evil it is capable of magic. To avoid sounding too much like David Brent (The Office), it is widely understood that it isnt money that makes the world go round, but people. And this is what the internet does so incredibly. It connects people. Distantly. Spontaneously. Spiritually. And in some cases eternally. A couple of weeks ago a lady called Jennifer Gieni was sat in her home in Calgary, Canada, and I was sat a few thousand miles away at mine in Hertfordshire, England and we knew absolutely nothing of each other. But we do sit under the same sky, and we know of the same solar system. A connection on Twitter due to similar interests, a conversation or two, and within a couple of weeks she had produced not one, but two brilliantly spontaneous paintings inspired by listening to a couple of my songs. (Mars & Indigo) Now I havent spoken to Jenny in person, or communicated with her beyond the tap of a keyboard, but because of this artistic bond, I would consider her (and many other friends I have made through Twitter) closer to me right now than most people in my life have ever been. Damn the internet if you wish, but you cannot deny it its glory. For it is capable of binding us in the most inspiring and beautiful way imaginable.
