Ted Schubel with Info to Go- From VDOT: Heavy, persistent rain continues to flood several primary and secondary roads in the Fredericksburg area this evening, including on Route 208 (Lake Anna Parkway) and Route 673 (Piedmont Drive) in Spotsylvania County, and Route 687 (Hope Road) and Route 1027 (Harrell Road) in Stafford County. Hope Road is blocked between Stafford Avenue and Olde Concorde Road. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is on scene, and equipment is being transported to the closed section to re-open the road to traffic. Motorists should use the following detour route: Coal Landing Road, Greenridge Drive, and Olde Concord Road. Motorists can still access all other residential streets from flooded and closed roads. However, motorists may need to take an alternate route to reach their destination. Motorists can also access 511Virginia by calling 511 from any telephone in Virginia, or downloading VDOT’s 511Virginia free mobile app. VDOT urges motorists to use extreme caution while driving during heavy rain and severe weather: · Never drive through water flowing across a road. It takes only six to 12 inches of water to float a small vehicle. · Never drive around barricades. Remember, the road has been closed for your safety. · Slow down when driving through standing water. Driving too fast through water could cause loss of control due to hydroplaning. · Avoid flood-prone areas, especially along creeks and other low-lying areas. · If a flash flood warning is broadcast, seek high ground immediately. · Watch for debris on the roadway. · If you encounter a fallen power line, do not try to move the line.
