"Bloemfontein Celtic defender Thabo Nthethe has told Bafana Bafana to ‘forget about the World Cup’ and has admitted it was ‘a dream come true’ in captaining the national team. Bafana Bafana failed to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup when they lost 2-1 to Ethiopia in what was a must-win clash for Gordon Igesund’s men. Nthethe has revealed that he was left feeling disappointed and that he and his teammates must move on from the latest disappointment to have hit the national team. “Honestly we were disappointed. We wanted the glory and unfortunately that did not happen. As a team we did our best but it was not our day,” he tells MTNFootball. “We have to move forward. We must forget about the World Cup. We knew if we lost that we wouldn’t make it, so it is our problem.” Talk has spread across the nation that Ethiopia may be stripped of three points after they fielded an ineligible player during the match, opening the possibility of Bafana qualifying. “What if Ethiopia are revoked points and Bafana qualify? I don’t think I need to comment on that,” he says. “We knew we needed to win and we didn’t. We must forget about it because we are not in the World Cup.” It was a bitter sweet time in the Bafana camp for Nthethe as he was handed the captain’s armband in the match against Lesotho. “The coach told me the day before the game that I was going to be captain. It shows that I am doing something right, captaining Bloemfontein Celtic and Bafana,” he adds. “I was on top of the moon- it’s something I would never forget. I didn’t think I could captain the squad, it is a dream come true. “ #SS
