Thailand - pre-elections mess - demonstrators asking resignation of non-neutral Election Commissioner Group demands resignation of Election Commissioner January 30, 2014 5:15 pm A group of 5,000 people have called for the resignation of Election (EC) Commissioner Somchai Srisuthiyakorn, accusing him of carrying out his duty without neutrality and attempting to destroy democracy. Pinkaew Luangaramsri, lecturer at the Sociology and Anthropology Department, Faculty of Social Sciences, Chiang Mai University led a group of 10 to submit an open letter bearing the signatures of 5,000 people to the Election Commission. The letter stated that after the House was dissolved, Somchai had proposed to the government that it defer the election and asked the Constitutional Court to rule who had the authority to defer the election. The letter said the group would petition the Constitutional Court if the EC attempted to nullify the election. Meanwhile Pheu Thai Party spokesman Prompong Nopparit presented questions to the EC at the party headquarters. He asked why the EC thought only of postponing the election, never the condemned protest leaders who blocked the election, or asked them to stop blocking the election. nationmultimedia/politics/Group-demands-resignation-of-Election-Commissioner-30225611.html#sthash.7LC9zoPg.dpuf
