Thane hospital to pay 10 lakh for negligent service. Thane: A city-based hospital has been asked to pay Rs 10 lakh compensation for a goof-up in an operation. The Thane District Consumer Redressal Forum has ordered the Kaushalya Medical Trust Foundation Hospital to pay the money to Thane resident Usha Mahesh Sule, a resident of Hajuri Darga Road, Louiswadi. The president of the forum, Umesh Jhavalikar and member N D Kadam, have also asked Dr Sandhya Saharan, the doctor who first operated upon Sule to pay Rs 3.63 lakh towards the expenses incurred by the complainant for the operation and corrective measures thereafter. The compensation has been asked to be made within 45 days from the date of order. The complainant had stated that she was suffering from severe abdominal pain on January 24, 2009 and approached Dr Jayprakash Pednekar for a check-up. The doctor advised her to go for abdomen and pelvis test, which she conducted at the Suyash Pathology Laboratory. The report indicated that her while her left ovary was normal, the right one had developed a cyst. She was advised a surgery and was admitted to Kaushalya hospital where she alleged that Dr Saharan had not even examined her. After going through the medical report, Dr Saharan advised the complainant to undergo an operation in the right ovary immediately, owing to a possibility of the cyst bursting.
