Thank you Michelle Josilo for nominating me for the #alsicebucketchallenge, I’m not going to make the 24 hour cut off unless someone dumps ice water on me at work, which is always a possibility, I guess. So, instead, I listened to Vanilla Ice sing “Ice Ice Baby” while making my $100 donation to ALS. I’d like to note that listening to that song lasts a lot longer than getting drenched by ice water – 4 minutes and 31 seconds to be exact. And that’s not counting the endless repeat of the song that I now have going on in my head. Since I didn’t complete the challenge, it doesn’t seem fair to nominate 3 people. So, instead, I will list 3 ALS facts that I discovered during the donation process. • Approximately 5,600 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with ALS each year. • The incidence of ALS is two per 100,000 people, and it is estimated that as many as 30,000 Americans may have the disease at any given time. • Although the life expectancy of an ALS patient averages about two to five years from the time of diagnosis, this disease is variable and many people live with quality for five years and more. #icebucketchallenge #strikeoutals
