Thank you Shiri Bahut Joolum... Very well said!!!!!! I think you need to understand and come to terms with the fact that the remarks made were from an individual and does not in any way represent all persons that are not Itaukei. The remark is unacceptable whether its directed at a chief or any individual for that matter. We never have the right to strip another of their dignity. NEVER! But lets also not make the mistake of taking the views and actions of some irresponsible people and turning it into an issue which may cause one group to believe that another group is to blame for the irresponsible action. These are individuals who unfortunately have no understanding of respect and neither do they understand the values of working together and living together. Most often these individuals are also ones that hardly make any positive contribution to society but somehow feel that they have earned the right to strip another of dignity. People who contribute positively to society usually understand the importance of every single person.Having worked in villages around the country let me assure you that most Indo-Fijians also hold Itaukei chiefs in very high regard. Most call them raja or raani meaning the chief is the king or the queen of that area. I happen to have had a personal encounter with the chief mentioned in the comment and i must say that the way she spoke to me and treated me left me extremely humbled. Dont let the actions of a few deter you from believing in the goodness that does lie in most people. You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty. Mahatma Gandhi.
