Thank you so much to everyone for your prayers and thoughts throughout my familys ordeal. Doctors woke Tom up yesterday and removed the ventilator. He took the bad news better than I could have ever imagined. Im thankful for the strength of my husband, which is making his illness a million times easier on my family and myself. Tom took the news the same way hes gone through all the years Ive known him: strong and dignified and optimistic. Where Id scream and rant, he was cool and accepting. But thats not to say hes giving up. Were all prepared to fight in round three. Game plan: identify the rare type of cancer thats broken through his chest wall and embedded in his ribcage. Custom a chemo cocktail and radiation therapy in hopes of shrinking the mass enough in 3 to 4 months so we can come back to Texas and try again. Were still here, as Tom is still in the hospital recovering from the surgery that wasnt. Then wait for path report and geanology to identify cell types. Then begin a treatment thats more aggressive than this ravaging cancer.
