Thank you to Bob Maxon, NBC Connecticut meteorologist, for visiting Edith E. Mackrille Elementary School this morning to help kick off this years reading challenge! He read Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and reminded kids why its important to read often. As kids track how many books and pages they are reading at home this year, a paper version of Principal Drenzek will journey a certain distance across a map of Connecticut on a special bulletin board based on how much they read. The project gives the school a chance to teach youngsters about different parts of our state and helps kids track their reading progress. Last year, the miniature Mrs. Drenzek traveled across the world in a special bulletin board display, and the year before that, she explored West Haven.
