Thank you to all of our marijuana reform advocates that helped us pass our decriminalization bill last session. That new law goes into effect today, creating a new page of history in Maryland where no one will go to jail for a small amount of personal possession of this plant (instead there is a small civil monetary penalty). With all of the great advances coming out of Colorado and Washington, Im certain it is only a matter of time when Maryland leaders will see the wisdom in legalizing, taxing, and regulating marijuana in our state. Until then, we need to work next session to address one loophole in the new law which failed to decriminalize possession of marijuana paraphernalia (a pipe, for example). Keep the faith and remember that sometimes we have to crawl, before we walk, and then we run.
