Thank you to anyone who has participated in the ALS awareness - TopicsExpress

Thank you to anyone who has participated in the ALS awareness campaign by doing the ice bucket challenge and/or donating to the cause. ALS is a horrible disease and it has struck our family. We watch a dear family member fight this disease with all she had. She was taken from us way to early in life. For those of you that do not know what ALS is, here is a brief overview of the disease. What is ALS? Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as Lou Gehrigs Disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed. Please keep the challenge going by spreading the awareness and raising money to help in the research for a cure. Again.. thank you to all who participated. Even if you could not donate money, by doing the ice bucket challenge and challenging others, you are creating awareness.
