Thank you to my friend Elizabeth Bailey for sharing this and of course thank you to the Dalai Lama. I often come across the idea in many people that forgiveness is weak or some kind of wooly liberal soft idea. Firstly, it takes a lot of strength to forgive someone. It is not a weakness. Secondly, forgiving someone does not mean releasing them of the responsibility for their actions. That responsibility stays with them regardless. They are not let off the hook at all. What forgiving does is to help the person on the receiving end of their action to start healing. You dont even have to tell a person you forgive them. Its in your own mind that counts. Its your own peace of mind thats the most important and that is what forgiving along, with other things, helps you find.
