Thank you to the Work Foundation for asking me to provide expert advice in shaping the paper and speak at the BUPA sponsored launch of their latest Policy Unit Report Fluctuating conditions, fluctuating support. It was also a great opportunity to put forward the experiences of our members FLUIDITY ( Uk Forum for hidden and fluctuating conditions ) to the various organisations represented at the event. Global statistics tell us that approximately 1 in 6 people who become disabled in work lose their job we know from our research and programmes I have developed ( Workforce Retention programme and the Inclusive Entrepreneurship Programme ) that there are repeated negative contributory factors to this happening and equally very practical positive measures which can reduce this figure significantly. I was particularly interested in supporting the work foundation in this area of work as it brought in the much needed debate about small business and the urgent need for guidance and support in this area not only in terms of an SME employing disabled people but for disabled entrepreneurship which is an option increasingly being taken up by people with fluctuating conditions . I am confident this report is the start of a move towards a Global response to the recruitment, selection and retention of disabled people which recognises the need for inclusive working practice which in turn creates environments where supportive and participatory structured frameworks create pathways to effective workforce retention. theworkfoundation/Reports/378/Fluctuating-conditions-fluctuating-support-Improving-organisational-resilience-to-fluctuating-conditions-in-the-workforce
