Thankful for Generosity Read 2 Corinthians 9:11 There are times when it is really hard to be generous. We take a look at people and we sum up in our minds whether they are worth our time and resources. If we see someone working as hard as they can and still struggling, then we throw something their way. If we see someone sitting on the corner, holding a sign, asking for handouts, we drive by as fast as we can. What if God’s generosity was based on our standard of worthiness? Scripture tells us that even when we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). That says something big: God gave us his best even when we were in our worst state, because without his generosity in our worst, we would never be able to accept his best. How could we have ever accepted what is perfect if we had to be perfect in order to accept it? It would be an impossibility, a state of mind and being that could never be reached. But God was gracious enough to give us his best even when we did nothing to deserve it. Now, back to our standard—it seems pretty shallow in light of what Jesus has done. So, the next time we begin to judge someone based merit and if they deserve it, think about Jesus, and do not withhold your hand. By being generous in every way, we will be enriched in every way. Don’t worry about another’s generosity, worry about your own, and whether what you are doing is producing thankfulness to God. --Jack Lipsey, Central church of Chris
