Thanks for another great poem Mick Needed ! . You wanted us in two World Wars, You needed us for Britain`s cause, We did our best to fill our role, ` Britain needed coal !`. We died for you far down below, Where other people feared to go, We never held the begging bowl, ` Britain needed coal !`. We broke our back we did our bit, In the blackened tunnels of that pit, We gave our heart we gave our soul, ` Britain needed coal !`. But come the victory, come the day, Never once i heard you say, Thank you deeply, once again, Britain`s bravest mining men ! . Not for them a medal struck, Nor a handshake or Good luck . No praise for them or rigmarole, ` Britain needed coal ! ` No need for them a living wage, In Britain`s darkest blackest age, When the devil held control, And `Britain needed coal ! `. These heroes then are long gone now, To rest the sweat from off their brow, To reflect in honour of the role, They played, when, `Britain needed coal !`. “ Thanks lads, - good job done, have a minute now ! “.
