Thanks to InterOccupy for an alternative that works: Here is a way you can help people in the Philippines without donating to the Red Cross: Filipino American organizations in the U.S. who are working directly with regions affected by Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda began relief efforts. At this time, NAFCON (National Alliance for Filipino Concerns) will assist in the direct transfer of MONETARY donations. Your donation will be sent directly to Visayas Primary Health Care Services, Inc (VPHCS), our partner organization on the ground in the Visayan region. We will also identify a grassroots partner in Central Luzon to support our communities there. Please, make online donations securely via PayPal at tinyurl/bayanihanreliefeffort or make checks payable to “St. George Fontana,” and on the memo line, write: “NAFCON Bayanihan Relief” to clearly allocate it for this purpose.
