Thanks to all that have kept us in you thoughts and prayers since Mikes accident. Here is an update that he sent out via email. He asked me to post it, as he doesnt do facebook :) Hello family and friends, It occurred to me that some of you may be wondering how I am doing since my hospitalization two weeks ago, so here is an update. These days I dont have much pain. Actually I havent had much pain since the accident, and for that I am most thankful. I have been sleeping comfortably most nights. I wear a soft neck collar most of the day and night, although that is optional. My neck surgical sight (front right) is healing well, and is always covered by a large (2.5x 5?) bandage. Next week I have a follow up visit in which the surgical thread will be removed. This week we had a follow up visit with the plastic surgeon doctor for my nose resetting, and all was good with him. I am being visited by both a physical and an occupational therapist, about twice a week. They have given me a list of about 24 exercises to do twice daily. I am trying to be faithful to them. The last couple of days I have noticed a little more feeling in my upper teeth. Two weeks ago I could not feel them at all. It is believed that a damaged nerve in my upper nose area caused that feeling loss. I have lost most of the feeling under my chin as well, but I think that will return also. I am able to walk around the home without assistance. I can get my self dressed and undressed and in and out of bed on my own. My legs seem fairly coordinated although my right leg seems to forget a little if it is not used for a couple of hours. My left arm and hand is definitely stronger than my right, and is often assisting my right with some task. Today I realized for the first time that my right hand and arm seem noticeably improved, which is very encouraging since the last week there hasnt seemed to be much progress. My physical restrictions are to not lift more than 5 pounds, and to avoid excessive neck bending and twisting. Next week we have two follow up appointment in GR for the trauma and surgical teams, along with in home therapy sessions. Thank you all for your prayers, well wishes, meals and visits. They mean a lot to me. Please continue to lift my recovery in your prayers, and feel free to pass this note on to those who may be wondering. Thank you and Happy New Year, Mike
