Thanksgiving, Grandmothers, Aunts, and Gods Promise On February 21, I kissed my Grammy goodnight and laid down on the sofa next to her hospice bed in our home. I knew the time was near. She was tired but peaceful. We traveled together on her journey to heaven as far as God would let me go. When I woke up the next morning, Grammy was gone. She left while I was sleeping. Part of me went away with Grammy that night. My heart is still broken. I cant help it. We had a special bond. Her only Grandchild , I received her unconditional love that is with me still. This will be my second Thanksgiving without her. But I can still feel her love. Thank you God for devoted Grandmothers like mine. They are powerful testimony that You exist. Grandmothers are a reflection of Gods infinite love and grace. I am never letting go of that. My Aunt Sue and Jims Aunt Pat are enjoying their first Thanksgiving in heaven. My Aunt Sue was special. She had the gift of finding the good in every person and in every thing. She is one of only a few people who I never heard speak badly about anyone. Love is always the best response. Hatred cant drive away hatred; only love can do that. MLK I pray to soak up some more of Gods abundant grace. Grace is the primary ingredient needed to love more. Those of us who are practicing for heaven, doing the best we can, have no idea what it looks like. There are no round trip tickets. We dont know the day or hour when God will deliver on his promise: What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived the things God has prepared for those who love him I Corinthians 2:9 I love God. I trust him. I believe in Him. Hes got Grammy. Hes got Aunt Sue. Hes got Aunt Pat. Hes got all of us. This Thanksgiving I am most grateful to serve a God who calls us home. To Him be the Glory.
