Thanksgiving isnt Columbus Day. The idea of Thanksgiving isnt and - TopicsExpress

Thanksgiving isnt Columbus Day. The idea of Thanksgiving isnt and never was to celebrate the conquest of the Americas. The idea is to give thanks for whatever health, love, and happiness you have in your life. Thanksgiving is a Protestant custom that predates the founding of Plimouth Colony by several generations. It isnt about Pilgrims and Indians, its about giving thanks for what one has. Evidence indicates that most Native Americans -- including many that attend the Day of Mourning observances in Plymouth -- will be celebrating Thanksgiving with their families today. Why? Because Thanksgiving isnt Columbus Day. I think the people of the US are a relatively ungrateful throng. Thanksgiving is the only day of the year in which we strive to not be ingrates. You cant convince me thats a bad thing, but youre welcome to try.
