That little girl in green floral dress I remembered the little - TopicsExpress

That little girl in green floral dress I remembered the little girl from yesterday. She had run to my car, softly knocking on the window, asking for money. She had a bright smile, but not persuasive enough for me to give her money. I had smiled lightly n motioned her to run off. She didnt make faces like most of them do, but simply disappeared in the traffic. Today, at the signal. she sat with her face down, on the divider, as if almost hiding herself from the world. I recognized her from her green floral dress, which she apparently hadnt changed, n neatly done lustrous hair, which were quite unusual for a beggar. On an impulse, I rolled down the window n called for her. She looked up, her big eyes were full of silent tears ...n so were they flowing freely all over her cheeks. She must have been crying for a while. I took out a 20 Rs note n signaled her to come n take. She didnt look so sure but eventually took it in her small fingers...giving a weak smile. She again disappeared in the traffic ...but this time turned back n looked once at my car. She wore blank expressions. As I moved on I wondered whether it was all right to have given her 20 Rs that briefly lightened up her face with that little smile...or did I just corrupt a young mind, teaching her to sell tears ? I kept wondering about that little girl in green floral dress. When at such tender age they learn to silently cry...life wasnt being fair...n here I was... complaining about bad traffic. excerpts from my diary- pravin talan
