That’s it at last, the end has come my father in laws lost his fight, These last few years he’s struggled on, though dementia held him tight, It was a awful just seen to see him, a man so proud and strong, Who lost his independence it seemed so very wrong. A tall man broad of shoulder, with a solid steely grip, Whose mind began to wander, whose memories would slip, Where words became a puzzle, as they didn’t seem to fit, And names of friends and places, his mind would oft omit, All through this evil illness, where his body seemed to shrink, He fought with pride for self esteem, but his eyes had lost that twink The battle raged within himself, though oft times burst abound , where it torn the loving soul, from all of those around. Dementia may have been the key, that sealed and locked his heart, but now he’s back with Milly so long they’ve been apart, so in this final battle dementia stood no chance, cus freedom’s all he wanted, not just to walk, but dance.
