The 2013/2014 academic year promises to be a very busy year for the RHU Student Section of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). The members are applying to host not one, but two, famous and prestigious ASME conferences: the Student Professional Development Conference and the Leadership Conference. This privilege is usually awarded to universities whose student sections have proven themselves worthy, so that’s exactly what the RHU ASME chapter aims to prove. The RHU student chapter has already won the first place at the 2013 SPDC in the Rapid Design Competition and Second Place in the Mechatronics Competition. They also participated in the 2012/2013 Leadership Conference in the United Arab Emirates, represented by RHU ASME Student Section president Baraa Habli. RHU’s student chapter plans to be even more active next year. It is planning to host seminar and activities, as well as to participate in both national and international conferences. It aims to support a thriving Lebanese Senior Section for graduates, similar to the ASME alumni student group for graduates in all Lebanon. We have also been granted permission to present two nominations to the regional executive leading committee, the Student District Operating Board. These are the people who manage and monitor the ASME Activities in our region, under the patronage of ASME main HQ in New York. If any members are interested in applying for these posts, please let us know. A successful student section is only as successful as its members. ASME would like to extend a warm invitation to all interested Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering students to join its student section. RHU’s ASME Student Section provides great assistance to its members, along with excellent contacts. It is also a great addition to your CV. However, only apply if you are willing to put in time and effort to help promote the name of our university chapter, in Lebanon and the region. The Identification Cards of previously subscribed students are with Ms. Yasmine of the Engineering Department, and you can pick yours up whenever you are on campus. Any certificates not yet received can be picked up from our Student Section President Baraa Habli at the beginning of the Fall semester. Our Society will have its own booth on campus to collect your membership applications during the RHU Clubs and Societies Recruitment Week in September.
