The 71st Save Minamisoma Project took place on 10/11-12, and Philip Duncan led a team of 8 people from Tokyo, with some concern on the approaching typhoon. The team left from Tokyo, after loading 2 tons of vegetables, fruit and goods from Metro. Second Harvest Japan supplied provided an additional 2 pallets of goods and Trust Express provided the truck with a volunteer driver, and greatly appreciate their assistance and support each time. Another volunteer weekend for Minamisoma, and local team joined by teams from Koriyama, Sendai cleared property in Odaka on Saturday, and then joined the SMP delivery the next day. All teams met at the staging area at 08:30 to deliver to 9 temporary housing areas with over 1,100 people and 450 families, and local volunteers prepared delicious tonjiru soup and onigiri and brought to a housing area, before the last delivery. Yamamoto san provided the Halloween spirit with costumes, and special thanks to Daniel Kahl, who rented a truck and brought 2 tons of water from Yamagata for the second delivery in a row. Tokyo team was able to go directly into Minamisoma for the first time, after Rte. 6 opened up from the Joban expressway, and made the trip in record time, although much food for thought going through the zone, and a fresh realization of the disaster scale. Next delivery scheduled for November 8 (Sat.) – 9 (Sun.) and seats still available from Tokyo. Separate driving arrangements to Minamisoma also welcome, if anyone would like to organize a team and go directly. Philip Duncan Save Minamisoma Project
