The AGM of the Friends of Whitby Abbey will be held at 11.00 a.m. on Saturday, November 9th, 2013 in the Normanby Room, Pannett Park Museum, Whitby. The AGM will be preceded by coffee at 10.30 a.m. giving both members and Trustees an opportunity to ‘meet and greet’. This year’s guest speaker will be Dr Rob Young, Inspector of Ancient Monuments for English Heritage North East who will talk on ‘The Archaeology of Lindesfarne’. This will be a general overview of the archaeology of the Island but will concentrate on the excavations on the 9th C settlement site at Greenshield on the North of the Island and the work carried out around the Priory. The talk will last approximately 60 minutes and will take place directly after the AGM It has been decided to offset the costs associated with the guest speaker by allowing members of the public to attend the talk. While the talk is free to members of the Friends, members of the general public will have to pay an admission fee of £2.00, which will be collected at the room entrance.
