The AUSIT Excellence Awards are on again, this time in Melbourne, the town that held the very first Awards event, at that stage state-based only. Its been 10 years since my very good friend Sarina Phan and I came up with the idea in my very own kitchen. We were frustrated with the negative issues the profession was facing and we thought why not celebrate our achievements instead? Initially, we wanted T/I students to receive the Awards at graduation but when we took the idea to the then Vic/Tas Committee, the wonderful members at the time including Silke, Kate, Chris, Ilke, John and Lous have not just embraced it but turned it into something we could only dream of! And when the Awards went national, we knew the event had superb staying power and would remain THE industry celebration to be seen at. So much hard work goes behind the scenes at these events, and each organising committee has really done us proud. Some of the old guard will be there this year, including Sarina, Nelida, Sompit, Louis, Silke and Kate. Itll be good to see everyone again and also meet the newcomers to the profession. All tickets are now gone as I understand it and its shaping up to be a fun celebration of our lives as language professionals.
