The Adrian Peterson ordeal is interesting to me. Per our court - TopicsExpress

The Adrian Peterson ordeal is interesting to me. Per our court system, the guy is still innocent. But a few photos automatically bypasses innocence (guilty by media) and public even hears from the Governor of Minnesota on the issue. Child abuse is 100% wrong and comes in many forms. While physical scars arent always visible, I see too many cases of emotional abuse. Kids have opened up to me locally on all sorts of issues. To set a limit on the physical abuse of children is a good start, but it all seems to go back to parenting. While I am not claiming to be a perfect parent at all, too many parents ignore their children, tear them down and make them feel worthless, or overstimulate and overindulge them. I fall short all the time and have taken punishment too far before. Sure, I wish AP didnt do this. But hopefully itll return many to one of their most important callings, as a parent. Not a friend, a roommate, a butler, a ride around town, or maid. A parent. While we are defining the term, child abuse, maybe we should re-define how we parent. Even if you think what AP did was 100% wrong, we have the opportunity every day to show our children how to do things right. Ive never heard a parent say, I regret spending time with my children. Our children are soaking up the media, peer thoughts, and everything else. If we dont influence them positively, theyll think its ok to become a Teen Mom, Son of Anarchy, or superglued to their phone. Building a better future doesnt come from greater opportunities for our children, but giving our children the tools to succeed.
