The African National Congress expresses heartfelt gratitude to the many South Africans and other people of the world who have been praying for the recovery of Former ANC President, Comrade Nelson Mandela. It is a matter of public record that Comrade Madiba remains in a critical but now stable condition in hospital. The African National Congress is disturbed by consistent rumours being peddled in the media and elsewhere around the state of health of President Mandela. We call upon all South Africans to desist from such unhelpful and hurtful rumours about President Mandela. These statements demonstrate insensitivity by those who continue to repeat them to not only to Madiba and his family but all the people of South Africa and the world who love Madiba dearly. The Presidency remains the only authoritative source of information regarding the health of President Mandela. Provinces of the ANC today, in Western Cape and Eastern Cape, have sent their well wishes and offered prayers for Madiba`s recovery at a prayer meeting led by the National Chairperson, Comrade Baleka Mbete, with women from various interfaith organisations in Cape Town and at Eastern Cape Provincial Conference currently underway in Port Elizabeth. Whilst we have all been praying in our homes, private places and churches, the African National Congress will now be rolling out prayer sessions where all South Africans can come together, hold hands and pray for Madiba, his family and medical team. Today Gauteng, will be holding prayer sessions at the following venues: Johannesburg: Grace Bible Church, Pimville Soweto - 14h00, today (27 June 2013). The prayer service will progress to converge at Vilakazi street - Orlando West - 17h00, (old Mandela House) Tshwane : At the park - Corner Park street and Wessels , next to Art Museum, 17h00, today (27 June 2013) West Rand : Kagiso Police Station Hall - next to Kagiso Mall, 09h00- 13h00, today (27 June 2013) Provincial Prayer Session As from tomorrow, 28th June, all ANC Provincial Offices will hold prayer sessions for Madiba. These prayer sessions will bring together people from all religious formations throughout our country, on an interfaith and ecumenical basis, and shall be held for an hour between 18h00 and 19h00 daily. Information on the venues will be provided on a daily basis. These prayers meetings and sessions seek to create a platform for all South Africans including our Alliance Partners, Civil Servants, Workers, Students, Businesspeople, Media, Artists, Sportsmen and Women, Musicians and Society broadly to come together and prayer together for Madiba. These provincial prayer sessions do not nullify nor seek to replace any other gatherings being organised by our branches, in our homes and churches and everywhere else where members of society continue to support Madiba. The African National Congress joins President Zuma in encouraging South Africans and the people of the globe to continue to keep President Mandela and his family in their thoughts and prayers during this time.
