The Army National Guard is implementing the Secretary of Defenses decision to expand opportunities to female soldiers. The assignment of females into previously closed units will occur incrementally. Company grade officers and noncommissioned officers (NCOs) in the grades of E-6 and above will be assigned first, in order to provide a support network for junior female soldiers, and offer advice to the units male leadership. Female Chaplain Assistant NCOs in the grade of E-5 can be assigned to provide a support network for junior female soldiers. This does not include assigning female soldiers to currently closed occupations in engineer (12B enlisted), field artillery (13B/D/F), infantry (11A/B/C/Z), armor (19A/B/C/D/K/Z), or special operations units, and positions with closed skill identifiers.
