The BUAV’s Save Our Monkeys campaign seeks to raise awareness - TopicsExpress

The BUAV’s Save Our Monkeys campaign seeks to raise awareness about the plight of the long-tailed macaques in Mauritius. Mauritius is one of the world’s largest suppliers of monkeys to the international research industry, exporting thousands of monkeys every year. Last year alone, Mauritius exported over 6,000 monkeys to laboratories around the world including to the UK, US, Spain, France and Germany. Field investigations carried out by the BUAV in Mauritius have revealed monkeys being ‘farmed’ in their thousands at a number of breeding facilities throughout the country. Monkeys, captured from the wild, have been imprisoned in these farms, where they are used as breeding ‘machines’ to produce offspring who will be exported as cargo on airlines to laboratories around the world, including the UK which imported over one thousand monkeys from Mauritius in 2013. Please help the BUAV put an end to the suffering of these primates and add your voice to the thousands who have already signed our petition calling for an end to the cruel trade. http:bit.ly/StopTheTrade To find out more about the cruel Mauritius monkey trade please visit buav.org/mauritius
