The Belgo Building is situated on the south side of St.Catherine - TopicsExpress

The Belgo Building is situated on the south side of St.Catherine Street, between Bleury and City Councillors. It takes up one whole city block. It was built in 1912 and was occupied by Scroggie’s department store. Scroggie’s was sold in 1915 and renamed Almy’s. Almys was in business until 1922. The store and building have been mentioned before on this group, but I dont believe the ghost sign on the back of the building has been mentioned. I was downtown today, and took these two photos of the sign. You can readily still see the Belgo Building letters on it, and if you look closely, you can see underneath it, Almys, Montreals Largest Store. There is some more text, but I cant make it out.
