I ordered dinner by room service. When the waiter brought my meal, he asked with a twinkle in his eye, “Sir, do you also want yori, yori?” In all honesty, I didn’t know what in the world yori yori was. Coming from a chef, I imagined that yori yori was some kind of pepper soup or local delicacy. So, I asked him, “How does it taste?” He laughed mischievously as if he thought I was joking, but I wasn’t. When we didn’t make much progress, he came out straight: “Oga, yori yori is woman! I can arrange one for you tonight, sir.” The female crisis puts women in an unfortunate conundrum. She is the commoditized gender, treated as a thing and not a person. In Nigeria, you hear men refer to women by such shocking object-oriented euphemisms as “bush meat,” “fresh fisch,” and “yori yori.” Women have a divine mandate to make the family a heaven on earth. “A wise woman builds her home...” says King Solomon, “but a foolish one tears it down.” The breasts of mothers have nursed kings, emperors, wealthy and noble men. They have also nursed scoundrels and thieves who pepper the society with untold horror. ... Second, the female crisis is generating very CHEAP MALES.
