The Bible does not support slavery, in fact its the most anti-slavery document in ancient history. The Mosaic Law condemns slavery, it requires those enslaving others be put to death (Exodus 21:16), escaped slaves be sheltered (Deuteronomy 23:15), and those harmed for the slightest causes like loss of a tooth or eye be freed. (Exodus 21:27) It also required freedom for all slaves twice each century, each 50 years. (Leviticus 25:10) Exodus 21:16 And he that stealeth a man, and selleth him, or if he be found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death. Deuteronomy 23:15 Thou shalt not deliver unto his master the servant which is escaped from his master unto thee: 16 He shall dwell with thee, even among you, in that place which he shall choose in one of thy gates, where it liketh him best: thou shalt not oppress him. Exodus 21:27 And if he smite out his manservants tooth, or his maidservants tooth; he shall let him go free for his tooths sake. Leviticus 25:10 And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubile unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family. In the New Testament the entire book of Philemon was written by Paul telling a slave owner to free a slave, Onesimus, and treat him as a Christian brother. Philemon 1:16 Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord? Furthermore the Bible even condemns racism based on skin color, saying that we shouldnt discriminate by it and that it is caused by exposure to the sun: Song of Solomon 1:6 Look not upon me, because I am black, because the sun hath looked upon me: my mothers children were angry with me; they made me the keeper of the vineyards; but mine own vineyard have I not kept. Furthermore, the Bible even gives an example of God punishing for racism. When Moses siblings discriminated against his black Ethiopian wife, God humorously punished Miriam by turning her skin white as snow through the disease of leprosy. Numbers 12:1 ¶ And Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married: for he had married an Ethiopian woman. 2 And they said, Hath the LORD indeed spoken only by Moses? hath he not spoken also by us? And the LORD heard it. Numbers 12:10 ¶ And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle; and, behold, Miriam became leprous, white as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous. 11 And Aaron said unto Moses, Alas, my lord, I beseech thee, lay not the sin upon us, wherein we have done foolishly, and wherein we have sinned. bereawiki/wiki/Slavery
