The Bible does not tell us much about life in heaven except for - TopicsExpress

The Bible does not tell us much about life in heaven except for what Jesus has revealed. First of all in heaven there is neither marriage nor being given in marriage; we will be like angels (Mt 22:30). This means all social relationships such as between husbands and wives; fathers and sons will ceased to be in the resurrection. There will not be huge mansions housing multi generation families. We shall all be children of God and brides of our Lord Jesus Christ. So now is the only time for us to cherish our spouses and for children to honour their parents. Secondly there will be rewards in heaven according to how each of us has used our talents to serve the growth and development of the church which Christ had left in our care. In Mt 19:28 Jesus told His 12 disciples who had left all to follow Him that when He return again; they will be given 12 thrones to rule the 12 tribes of Israel. In Lk 19:11-27 Jesus told of a King who before He went on a distant journey to receive a kingdom that He gave ten servants each a piece of mina ( which was equivalent of 100 day wages). Upon His return the servant who multiplied the one mina to 10 minas was rewarded with 10 cities to rule. The first appeared, saying, Master, your mina has made ten minas more. And he said to him, Well done, good slave, because you have been faithful in a very little thing, you are to be in authority over ten cities. (Luke 19:16, 17 NASB) Likewise the servant who multiplied his one mina to 5 minas was given 5 cities to rule. But the servant who went and buried his one mina was strongly rebuked by the King. This judgment before God is not related to salvation for it is impossible for anyone to earn his salvation; but how we used the gifts God has given us to advance His kingdom. Note in Lk 19:13 the king specifically told his servants to do business with the one mina till He returns. And he called ten of his slaves, and gave them ten minas and said to them, Do business with this until I come back. (Luke 19:13 NASB) Indeed Christ will come back for His church and reward each of us according to our deeds. For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and will then repay every man according to his deeds. (Matthew 16:27 NASB) While the world is lost in darkness, dont be guilty of sleeping in the light. Stir up the gifts that are within you to serve His church; so that you need not be ashamed when Christ returns. Now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears, we may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming. (1 John 2:28 NASB) Jesus does not believe in a middle ground. Either you are for Him or you are against Him. If you do not gather with Him, then you are guilty of scattering souls. He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me scatters. (Matthew 12:30 NASB) May the Holy Spirit stir each of us to good works.
